Mumbai, Nov 16: Actress Girija Oak Godbole, who recently became a viral sensation and the nation’s new social-media crush, has spoken out strongly against the obscene AI-morphed images circulating online. Her photo in a simple blue saree had gone viral for its elegance, drawing massive admiration from fans across the country. However, the same attention has also led to misuse of her images, leaving the actress distressed.

In a video shared on her official Instagram handle, the Inspector Zende actress expressed confusion and sadness over the ongoing trend. “So much attention all of a sudden is overwhelming. I’ve received a lot of love and I’m grateful for it,” she said, adding that while many memes and edits were harmless, some morphed images crossed all limits.

Girija said her family had been sharing various posts with her — some sweet, some funny — but the obscene, AI-generated images had deeply upset her. “I too am a girl of this era; I use social media and understand how it works. It’s a game we all play, but this game has no rules. That scares me,” she said.

Expressing her concern as a mother, she revealed her biggest fear: the impact such posts might have on her 12-year-old son in the future. “These edited and morphed photos will remain on the internet forever. Maybe when my son grows up, he will see them. He will know they are AI, but it still worries me how he might feel,” she said.

The actress urged people to act responsibly. “I can’t do much, but I don’t think doing nothing is right. If you’re someone creating or circulating such images — stop. And if you’re simply viewing them, please don’t,” she appealed.
