Mumbai: BMC proposes Rs 1,635-crore Kurla–Ghatkopar flyover to ease heavy traffic on LBS Marg

Daijiworld Media Network - Mumbai

Mumbai, Nov 16: In a bid to decongest one of the busiest stretches in the eastern suburbs, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has unveiled plans for a massive 4.24-km flyover connecting Kurla and Ghatkopar along LBS Marg. The civic body has floated a tender inviting multidisciplinary engineering firms to take up the project, which carries an estimated cost of Rs 1,635 crore.

As per the proposal, the flyover will begin near Kalpana Talkies in Kurla (L ward) and extend all the way to Pankhe Shah Dargah in Ghatkopar (N ward). Of its total length, the main elevated corridor is expected to span 3.91 km, while the landing ramps will measure 146 metres on the Kurla side and 180 metres on the Ghatkopar end.

The project is aimed at providing relief to thousands of daily commuters who experience severe bottlenecks on the LBS Marg stretch, especially during peak hours. Officials say the new flyover will streamline traffic flow, reduce travel time, and support the growing vehicular load in the rapidly developing eastern corridor.

With the tender process now underway, the BMC is set to move forward with detailed planning and execution to bring this major infrastructure upgrade to life.
