Mumbai, Nov 19: Celebrated actor Pankaj Tripathi is returning to his artistic roots with a heartfelt new venture—his own theatre banner, Roopkatha Rangmanch. Launched in collaboration with his wife and business manager, Mridula Tripathi, the banner’s first production Lailaaj promises to be a special milestone for the family. The musical comedy will mark the stage debut of their daughter, 18-year-old Aashi Tripathi.
Theatre has always been Pankaj Tripathi’s first love, and Lailaaj is his way of reconnecting with the world where his journey began. Reminiscing about his early days, the National Award-winning actor said the stage gave him his foundation and artistic discipline.

“My journey as an actor began on the stage — in backstage chaos, borrowed costumes, and the magic of performing for a live audience,” he recalled. Calling this new chapter deeply emotional, Tripathi said seeing his daughter step onto the same platform has been especially moving.
“What makes this even more special is that our daughter Aashi is making her stage debut. As a father, I feel immense pride; as an actor, a deep sense of responsibility; and as a producer, the excitement of creating something meaningful,” he shared.
Watching her rehearse, struggle, and evolve reminded him of his own beginnings. “Aashi’s debut is not just a moment for our family; it is a reminder that every artist must fall in love with the process — and theatre is the purest place for that love to grow.”
A Mother’s Pride and a Producer’s Vision
Co-founder of Roopkatha Rangmanch, Mridula Tripathi, echoed her husband’s thoughts. “As a mother, watching Aashi prepare for her debut has been profoundly moving. As a producer, I am thrilled to bring a project like this to life — one that celebrates creativity, teamwork, and the timeless charm of live performance.”
Aashi, who earlier appeared in a music video titled Rang Daaro, will now take her first major step into theatre.
Lailaaj Set for a November Premiere
Written, directed, and composed by Faiz Mohammed Khan, the musical comedy Lailaaj will be staged on November 21, 22, and 23 at Rangshila Theatre in Mumbai.
With this stage production, the Tripathi family hopes not only to celebrate personal milestones but also to reignite the spirit of theatre — a space that shaped Pankaj Tripathi into the artist he is today.
