Mumbai, Nov, 19: The much-anticipated trailer of Aditya Dhar’s high-octane spy thriller Dhurandhar has been winning praise from fans across the country for its fierce storytelling, intense performances, and raw action. However, the film has also found itself at the centre of a heated debate after well-known content creator and political commentator Dhruv Rathee openly criticised the makers for showcasing excessive gore.
The trailer, which unveiled Ranveer Singh as an undercover Indian spy operating in Pakistan, features hard-hitting scenes of torture and violence—elements that have stirred both excitement and discomfort among viewers. Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Dhruv Rathee expressed strong disapproval, calling the visuals “the equivalent of watching ISIS beheadings and calling it entertainment.”

Rathee accused director Aditya Dhar of crossing “a limit of cheapness in Bollywood,” adding that such extreme depictions risk “poisoning the minds of the young generation.” He urged the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to intervene, questioning whether the Board would be stricter about kissing scenes or graphic torture shown in the trailer.
Dhurandhar features an ensemble cast including Arjun Rampal, Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, R Madhavan, Sara Arjun, and Rakesh Bedi. Two scenes in particular have become talking points—one depicting Arjun Rampal as an ISI Major skinning a man alive, and another showing Akshaye Khanna brutally killing someone with a stone.
Despite the criticism, a large section of fans has lauded the film’s bold treatment, praising its dark atmosphere, gripping score, and uncompromising tone. “The energy, the darkness, the atmosphere… this feels like a new chapter in Indian music and cinema,” wrote one viewer. Another urged the Censor Board to retain the scenes as is, demanding “NO CUTS, NO BLURS.”
The trailer was launched at the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (NMACC) in Mumbai in the presence of the cast and crew. Dhurandhar, packed with espionage, drama, and unfiltered action, is slated to hit theatres on December 5.
