Chennai, Nov 19: Veteran South Indian actress Tulasi, known for her versatile performances across Telugu, Tamil, and Kannada cinema, left fans stunned on Monday after she quietly announced her retirement from films through a brief social media post.

Taking to Instagram on Monday evening, Tulasi shared a heartfelt note that read:

“In continuation of my Shirdi darshan this December 31’, I wish myself a happy retirement. Will continue my journey in peace with Sainadha. Thanking all for helping me learn life. Sairam.”

Tulasi began her cinematic journey at just three months old, reportedly at the insistence of legendary actress Savitri. She went on to shine as a celebrated child artist, earning two prestigious Nandi Awards for her roles in Seetamalakshmi (1978) and the iconic Sankarabharanam (1980).

As she transitioned into character roles, Tulasi became a familiar face in some of South India’s most-loved films, including Disco King, Nallavanuku Nallavan (1984), Sakalakala Vallavan (1982), and the critically acclaimed Mahanadhi (1994).

After taking a nine-year break from films, she made a strong comeback with Excuse Me (2003), followed by a steady stream of memorable roles in movies such as Jhossh, Mr. Perfect, Srimanthudu, Nenu Local, Miss Shetty Mr Polishetty, among many others.

Across her illustrious career spanning several decades, Tulasi has acted in over 200 films, leaving behind a legacy admired by audiences across generations.

Her announcement has sparked an outpouring of love and nostalgia from fans and colleagues, who continue to celebrate her contributions to Indian cinema.
