Cairo, Nov 19: Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer held a phone call in which both leaders underscored the urgent need to advance the outcomes of the latest UN Security Council resolution on the Gaza Strip.
According to a statement from the Egyptian presidency, the two leaders agreed that sustained action is essential to reinforce the current ceasefire and promote further de-escalation in Gaza.
On Monday, the UN Security Council approved a US-drafted resolution backing the formation of an International Stabilization Force (ISF) for Gaza, Xinhua reported. The resolution empowers UN member states and the Board of Peace—Gaza’s transitional administrative body tasked with overseeing reconstruction—to establish a temporary ISF operating under international law. Participating countries are to contribute personnel in close coordination with Egypt and Israel.

During their discussion, Sisi and Starmer highlighted the importance of building on the outcomes of the Sharm El-Sheikh summit held in Egypt in October. They stressed that accelerating humanitarian aid deliveries and launching reconstruction efforts without delay must remain top priorities.
Starmer reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to ensuring that adequate humanitarian supplies reach the people of Gaza. He also urged strengthened international involvement, calling on more relief organizations to step forward to meet the urgent humanitarian needs.
Meanwhile, Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul-Gheit stated on Tuesday that the newly adopted Security Council resolution marks “the beginning of the road, not its end.” He noted that significant work across all fronts remains necessary to transform the resolution’s directives into real improvements for Palestinians on the ground.
Aboul-Gheit further emphasized that the resolution’s recognition of a credible pathway toward the establishment of an independent Palestinian state is a critical foundation for future progress.
