New York, Nov 25: Punjabi superstar Diljit Dosanjh, who had been widely celebrated for securing a prestigious nomination at the International Emmy Awards 2025, missed out on the Best Performance by an Actor award. The honour went to Spanish actor Oriol Pla for his role in Yo, Adicto, marking one of the big wins of the evening.
Dosanjh was competing in a strong category featuring David Mitchell (Ludwig), Oriol Pla (Yo, Adicto), and Diego Vasquez (One Hundred Years of Solitude). Despite high expectations from fans worldwide, the actor-singer narrowly missed the coveted title.

In another setback for India, Amar Singh Chamkila, which had earned a nomination for Best TV Movie/Mini-Series, also did not clinch the award. The category was won by Lost Boys & Fairies, produced by Duck Soup Films.
For the grand event, director Imtiaz Ali and Diljit Dosanjh graced the red carpet in style. Diljit, staying true to his signature charm, sported a glittery jacket paired with a crisp white shirt and a classic black turban, drawing attention from global media.
About Amar Singh Chamkila
Directed by Imtiaz Ali, the film chronicles the life of iconic Punjabi musician Amar Singh Chamkila, who rose to fame with his bold, socially provocative lyrics that resonated strongly with women and the oppressed. Diljit Dosanjh plays the titular role, while Parineeti Chopra portrays Chamkila’s second wife, Amarjot. Music maestro A. R. Rahman composed the film’s soundtrack, with lyrics penned by Irshad Kamil.
Premiering in Mumbai on April 8, 2024, and later streaming on Netflix from April 12, the film earned widespread critical acclaim. NDTV critic Saibal Chatterjee praised the film highly, writing that Diljit delivers one of his finest performances and that the film’s music and storytelling make it a “transfixing viewing experience”.
