Goa, Nov 27: South Goa is set to witness a historic event on November 27 as Prime Minister Narendra Modi will unveil a 77-feet-tall bronze statue of Lord Ram at the Shree Samsthan Gokarn Jeevottam Mutt. The PM is scheduled to arrive at the mutt at 3.45 pm, where a special helipad has been constructed to facilitate his visit, according to the mutt’s central committee chairperson, Shrinivas Dempo.

The statue, crafted by renowned sculptor Ram Sutar—who also designed the Statue of Unity in Gujarat—will be the tallest depiction of Lord Ram in the world, Goa Public Works Department minister Digambar Kamat confirmed. Before the unveiling, PM Modi will visit the temple within the mutt and later address a public gathering. Goa Governor Ashok Gajapathi Raju, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, Union Minister Shripad Naik, and other state cabinet members will be present for the function.

The unveiling is part of celebrations marking 550 years of the mutt tradition, with programmes running from November 27 to December 7. The mutt, located in Partagal village, Canacona, was constructed 370 years ago and has recently undergone refurbishment, blending its spiritual heritage with a modern look. Organisers expect 7,000 to 10,000 visitors daily during the week-long events.
