Udupi, Dec 9: In a major crackdown on illegal immigration, the Udupi principal senior civil judge and CJM court has sentenced 10 Bangladeshi nationals to two years’ imprisonment, along with a fine of Rs 10,000 each.

The case dates back to October 11, 2024, when PSI Praveen Kumar R of Malpe police station, while on patrol near Vadabandeshwara Bus Stand, noticed seven individuals moving suspiciously with luggage. Upon questioning, the group failed to provide valid documents permitting their stay in India.

Further investigation revealed that the accused had allegedly entered India illegally from Bangladesh and were residing in Hoode, Paduthonse village, using forged Aadhaar cards.

A case was registered at Malpe police station under crime No. 138/2025 for offences under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, the Foreigners Act, and the Aadhaar Act. During subsequent investigation, three more illegal migrants were apprehended, bringing the total number of accused to 10. A detailed chargesheet was filed before the court.

Following the completion of the trial, the court convicted all 10 accused on December 8, sentencing them to two years’ imprisonment and imposing a fine of Rs 10,000 each.

Police officials emphasised that strict action will continue against illegal entrants and those involved in creating forged identity documents, reinforcing ongoing efforts to curb illegal immigration in the district.

There are many like these people who have already settled in Udupi, it's the luck of police that they catch hold of these 10 members before they go and start working in any ice factory or pan shops. Hope these intruders doesn't turn to any violent human and create a ruckus in Udupi.

Punishment is absolutely required. In fact it should have been minimum 5 years... losing 5 years of valuable life behind bars is such a huge loss....more over it we free them without punishment, they will return again.
