Panaji, Dec 11: In the wake of the horrific nightclub fire in North Goa that claimed 25 lives, the district administration has enforced a strict ban on the use of fireworks, sparklers, and pyrotechnic devices inside all tourist establishments across the district.

The order, issued on Wednesday evening, comes just days after the devastating blaze at the ‘Birch by Romeo Lane’ nightclub in Arpora, which erupted around midnight on December 6. Preliminary findings revealed that electric firecrackers ignited inside the club had triggered the inferno, leading to the tragic fatalities.

A senior official from the district administration confirmed that the directive has been issued under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023. The ban covers the ignition or operation of fireworks, sparklers, flame-thrower devices, smoke generators, and other fire or smoke-producing equipment.

Ban Applies to All Major Tourist Spots

The prohibition extends to:

• Nightclubs and bars

• Restaurants and hotels

• Guesthouses and resorts

• Beach shacks and temporary structures

• Event and entertainment venues

Officials emphasised that the move is a precautionary measure aimed at preventing any repeat of the tragic Arpora incident, which sent shockwaves across Goa’s bustling nightlife and tourism sector.

With the tourist season at its peak, the administration has urged all establishments to strictly comply with the order, ensuring the safety of patrons and staff.
