New Delhi, Dec 14: Prime Minister Narendra Modi strongly condemned the terrorist attack targeting Jewish worshippers celebrating the first day of Hanukkah at Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia, and offered condolences to the families of the victims.
“Strongly condemn the ghastly terrorist attack carried out today at Bondi Beach, Australia, targeting people celebrating the first day of the Jewish festival of Hanukkah. On behalf of the people of India, I extend my sincere condolences to the families who lost their loved ones. We stand in solidarity with the people of Australia in this hour of grief. India has zero tolerance towards terrorism and supports the fight against all forms and manifestations of terrorism,” PM Modi posted on X.

The attack claimed at least 12 lives, including one gunman, and left 29 others injured, including two police officers. Authorities have identified one of the shooters as Naveed Akram from Sydney’s Bonnyrigg. While police confirmed there is no ongoing active threat, the public has been urged to avoid the area as investigations continue.
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese described the shooting as a “devastating terrorist incident,” calling it a targeted act of antisemitism on the first day of Hanukkah. “An attack on Jewish Australians is an attack on every Australian,” he said, adding that security agencies are actively pursuing anyone linked to the incident. Albanese emphasized that such violence has no place in Australia and vowed to eradicate it, urging national unity in the face of hate.
NSW Police confirmed that two individuals are in custody, but the operation remains ongoing. Citizens have been instructed to follow police directions and stay clear of the affected area.
