Mangaluru, Dec 14: Carmel School CBSE, Kotekar observed International Anti-Corruption Day in anticipation on December 13, with the objective of creating awareness among students about the values of honesty, integrity, and ethical conduct.
The programme commenced with an opening and prayer by Dhruvi N V and Pratheek, invoking blessings for the success of the event. Tr Swetha S formally introduced the chief guest, Hemalatha N, deputy commissioner of the Commercial Tax Department.

The welcome address was delivered by Partha Krishna, who extended a warm welcome to the chief guest, dignitaries, teachers, and students. This was followed by a presentation on the significance of the day by Divin, who emphasized the importance of honesty and the need to combat corruption for the progress and development of the nation.
A thought-provoking skit by Nafisa Fathima Huda and Muhammed Amaan depicted real-life situations related to corruption, tax evasion, and the misuse of public funds. The performance effectively helped students understand how corruption leads to losses for both the government and society. The programme also featured a graceful dance performance by Jean Megan Monteiro and Drusti N V, which conveyed strong moral values through expressive movements.
Following the performances, all students took a pledge, promising to uphold honesty and integrity in their lives and to grow into responsible and ethical citizens.
In her address, the chief guest Hemalatha N explained the harmful effects of corruption using simple and practical examples. She spoke about how non-payment of taxes and bribery adversely affect the country’s development. She highlighted that although dishonest individuals may gain temporary benefits, the government and society suffer long-term losses. She encouraged students to be honest, responsible, and value-driven, stressing that the future of the nation lies in the integrity of its citizens.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Mithali Adyanthaaya, expressing gratitude to the chief guest, dignitaries, teachers, and students for their cooperation and active participation.
The celebration successfully instilled the values of honesty, transparency, and responsibility among the students and reinforced the importance of building a corruption-free society.
