PWD minister to meet Porvorim corridor contractor over dust pollution

Daijiworld Media Network - Panaji

Panaji, Dec 16: Public Works Department Minister Digambar Kamat on Tuesday announced that he will personally meet the contractor handling the Porvorim corridor project to address residents’ concerns about excessive dust and air pollution.

The announcement comes after locals complained that dust from construction activity has been affecting nearby homes and schools, raising health and environmental concerns. The minister assured that all necessary measures would be taken to mitigate the impact and ensure the project complies with environmental norms.

Officials confirmed that dust suppression methods, including water sprinkling and proper covering of construction material, will be strictly enforced. “We are committed to balancing infrastructure development with public safety and environmental standards,” Kamat said.

Residents welcomed the intervention but stressed continuous monitoring until the completion of the corridor works to prevent further air quality deterioration.
