Indore, Dec 16: A special CBI court in Indore on Tuesday handed down five-year jail terms to 10 individuals for their involvement in the infamous Vyapam scam. In addition, each convict was fined Rs 3,000.

The convicted—Rameshwar, Rakesh, Devendra, Chetan, Balram, Harpal, Gopal, Jitendra, Dinesh, and Digvijay Singh Solanki—were found guilty of impersonation and submitting forged documents to secure jobs in the 2008 Patwari recruitment examination conducted by Vyapam.

The case traces back to an FIR lodged by the Madhya Pradesh Police at Kotwali police station in Khargone district on October 26, 2012. It was subsequently transferred to the CBI, which filed a chargesheet on May 28, 2014, following a two-year investigation.

The court observed that the accused deliberately submitted fake certificates and documents to appear legitimate and gain selection in the exam.

This conviction marks another milestone in the CBI’s ongoing pursuit of justice for those involved in the Vyapam scandal, which first surfaced in 2001. The scam revealed a web of corruption linking bureaucrats, politicians, and middlemen, and came into the national spotlight in 2013. Since then, multiple cases related to Vyapam have been tried in special CBI courts across Bhopal, Indore, and Gwalior.

Authorities said the verdict reinforces efforts to hold those responsible accountable and restore faith in the recruitment process.
