Sreeleela appeals to fans to reject misuse of AI, calls for ethical use of technology

Hyderabad, Dec 17: Popular Telugu and Tamil film actress Sreeleela on Wednesday issued a strong appeal to social media users, urging them not to encourage or circulate misleading and harmful content generated using artificial intelligence.

In an emotional message shared on her Instagram account, the actress stressed the need to distinguish between responsible use of technology and its misuse. “I fold my hands and sincerely request every social media user not to support AI-generated nonsense. There is a clear difference between using and abusing technology. Technological advancements are meant to make life simpler, not more complicated,” she wrote.

Emphasising dignity and safety in the entertainment industry, Sreeleela reminded users that every woman is someone’s daughter, granddaughter, sister, friend or colleague — regardless of whether she chooses art as her profession. “We all want to be part of an industry that spreads happiness, with the confidence that we are working in a protected environment,” she added.

The actress revealed that she had been unaware of certain online developments due to her busy schedule and thanked her well-wishers for alerting her. Calling the situation “deeply disturbing and devastating,” she said she was speaking not just for herself but also for fellow colleagues facing similar issues. “With grace, dignity and trust in my audience, I request you to stand by us. The authorities will take it forward from here,” she stated.

Sreeleela’s appeal comes amid growing concerns in the film industry over the unethical use of AI to create fake and objectionable content. Earlier this year, actress Priyanka Arul Mohan had also spoken out against the circulation of AI-generated images falsely portraying her.

In October, Priyanka had urged the public to stop sharing such content, saying that artificial intelligence should be used for ethical creativity rather than misinformation. “Let’s be mindful of what we create and what we share,” she had said.

The repeated appeals by leading actresses highlight rising alarm within the industry over digital misuse and the urgent need for responsible online behaviour.
