Goa citizens oppose exterior electricity meter shift, petition filed

Daijiworld Media Network - Margao

Margao, Dec 18: Local residents in Goa have raised objections to a government directive requiring electricity meters to be shifted to the exterior of homes, leading to a formal petition filed by Citizens for Democracy Goa with the Chief Electrical Engineer.

The civil society group argues that the mandate contradicts the purpose of newly deployed smart meters, which already transmit data remotely, making external relocation unnecessary.

The group has urged authorities to reconsider the order in the interest of convenience and cost savings for consumers
