Mumbai, Dec 20: In a significant move aimed at bolstering industrial infrastructure, the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) has raised service charges for the first time in 17 years in key industrial zones including Hinjewadi, Chakan and Talegaon, officials said today.
The revised charges will range from Rs 12 to Rs 15 per square metre, up from the earlier Rs 4.75, and are expected to generate funds for roads, flyovers, drainage systems and other essential upgrades.

The hike — originally proposed in 2019 but stalled due to industry pushback and pandemic disruptions — was implemented after fresh consultations with stakeholders. MIDC said the additional revenue will help finance projects such as road construction under the Hinjewadi Metro corridor, a flyover at Lakshmi Chowk, and a Rs 167?crore concrete road for heavy vehicles in the Chakan Talegaon belt.
Under the new plan, Rs 323?crore has been earmarked for broader development in Chakan, while Talegaon will see improvements including four lane roads and upgraded drainage, boosting efficiency for major firms including Hyundai Motors. Authorities said the revision addresses long standing issues like traffic congestion and poor road conditions, catalysing growth in these industrial hubs that are vital to the state’s economy.
