New Delhi, Dec 28: India vice-captain Smriti Mandhana created history on Sunday by becoming only the second Indian woman cricketer, after Mithali Raj, to complete 10,000 runs in international cricket.
Mandhana achieved the landmark during the fourth T20I against Sri Lanka at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram. Needing 27 runs before the match, she reached the milestone in just 20 balls and went on to play a scintillating knock of 80 off 48 deliveries. Her innings, which marked her 32nd international fifty, included 11 fours and three sixes, and was scored at an impressive strike rate of 170.2.

With this achievement, Mandhana joins an exclusive list that includes former India captain Mithali Raj, New Zealand’s Suzie Bates, and former England batter Charlotte Edwards as the only women to have crossed the 10,000-run mark in international cricket.
Since making her international debut against Bangladesh in April 2013, Mandhana has amassed 629 runs in seven Test matches and 5,322 runs in 117 One Day Internationals. Mithali Raj, the highest run-scorer in women’s international cricket, retired with a total of 10,868 runs, a tally Mandhana now has the opportunity to surpass.
Earlier in the series, Mandhana had already made another record when she became the first Indian and the second overall, after Suzie Bates, to score 4,000 runs in Women’s T20 Internationals during the opening match in Visakhapatnam.
The left-handed opener has enjoyed a remarkable run of form in recent years. She was the second-highest run-scorer in India’s successful Women’s ODI World Cup campaign, scoring 434 runs in nine innings at an average of 54.25. In 2025, she finished as the leading run-getter in ODIs, accumulating 1,362 runs in 23 innings, including five centuries and five half-centuries. She also became the first Indian woman to score a century in all three formats of the game.
After the ongoing five-match T20I series against Sri Lanka concludes on December 30, Mandhana will lead Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the 2026 Women’s Premier League. The tournament begins on January 9, with RCB set to take on Harmanpreet Kaur-led Mumbai Indians in the opening match at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.
