Yemen: Saudi-backed forces carry out air strike on ships at Mukalla port

Aden, Dec 30: Yemen’s Saudi-backed government coalition carried out a “limited” air strike on two ships at the port city of Mukalla in the early hours of Tuesday, Saudi state-owned media reported.

According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the air strike was conducted shortly after authorities issued an evacuation warning, urging civilians in the Mukalla area to leave immediately until further notice in view of impending military operations.

SPA said the strike targeted two vessels that had allegedly transported a large consignment of weapons and combat vehicles to forces aligned with the United Arab Emirates-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC).

The report claimed the military action was aimed at preventing the delivery of arms and equipment that could destabilise the region. No immediate details were available regarding casualties or damage caused by the strike.

Mukalla, a key port city in eastern Yemen, has remained strategically significant amid the country’s prolonged conflict involving rival factions and regional powers.

Further details are awaited as the situation continues to develop.
