Bicholim police bust organised theft gang; two youths arrested, minor detained

Bicholim, Dec 30: In a major breakthrough, Bicholim police have busted an organised criminal gang while investigating a theft reported at a petrol pump in Sakhalim, arresting two youths and detaining a minor.

Police said the accused are part of a larger gang allegedly involved in multiple vehicle thefts and robbery cases across Goa and neighbouring Maharashtra. The arrests were made during night patrolling.

The arrested accused have been identified as Mahesh Shiv Shetty (19) of Karai and Bhuvan Tilkaraj Pillai (18) of Peddem, Mapusa. The minor who was accompanying them has been sent to a protective home.

The theft took place in the early hours of December 28 at a petrol pump located at Karapur-Tisk. The gang allegedly broke into the office and decamped with ?9,000 in cash along with a DVR containing CCTV footage.

Police have launched further investigations to trace other members of the gang and to ascertain their involvement in similar crimes reported in the region.
