Jennifer Garner opens up on life after divorce, says time healed bond with Ben Affleck

Los Angeles, Jan 8: Hollywood actor Jennifer Garner has candidly spoken about her divorce from actor Ben Affleck, saying the breakup of their 13-year-long marriage was one of the hardest phases of her life, but time helped them rebuild a peaceful co-parenting relationship.

Garner and Affleck, who separated in 2015 and finalised their divorce in 2018, continue to share a cordial bond while raising their three children — Violet, Fin and Samuel. Despite going through separate relationships after their split, the former couple has maintained a strong partnership as parents.

In an interview with Marie Claire UK, Garner reflected on the emotional toll of the highly publicised separation. “You have to be smart about what you can and can’t handle, and I could not handle what was out there,” she said. “The hardest part was breaking up a family. Losing a true partnership and friendship was painful.”

Speaking about co-parenting, Garner said she is grateful to have rediscovered peace and mutual respect with Affleck. “I’m able to co-parent at this point with peace and equanimity and a partnership that I didn’t know I would ever get back to,” she said, adding that time plays a crucial role in healing, forgiveness and moving forward.

Without elaborating on her current personal life, Garner said she feels content, remarking, “I have so much love in my life.” Affleck, meanwhile, has been in multiple relationships since their divorce, including a remarriage to actor-singer Jennifer Lopez, which ended in separation in 2025.

Garner also said she consciously avoids gossip, especially for the sake of her children. “It doesn’t serve me to take in gossip about myself or anyone else, much less my kids,” she said, acknowledging that constant public scrutiny continues to be challenging for her family.

On the professional front, Garner was last seen reprising her role as Elektra in the 2023 Marvel blockbuster Deadpool & Wolverine. She will next return as Hannah Hall in season two of Apple TV+’s thriller series The Last Thing He Told Me and is also set to headline a new series adaptation, The Five-Star Weekend, later this year.
