Mumbai, Jan 8: Prime Video has announced the premiere date of its upcoming Telugu Original crime suspense drama Cheekatilo, starring Sobhita Dhulipala and Viswadev Rachakonda. The film is set to stream globally from January 23.
Also featuring Chaitanya Visalakshmi, Esha Chawla, Jhansi, Aamani and Vadlamani Srinivas in key roles, Cheekatilo is set against the gritty backdrop of Hyderabad. The edge-of-the-seat thriller follows Sandhya, a true-crime podcaster played by Sobhita Dhulipala, whose relentless pursuit of hidden truths leads her into the city’s most disturbing and violent secrets.

Producer D. Suresh Babu described the film as a deeply layered and emotionally driven suspense drama. “What makes Cheekatilo special for me is how it explores the courage required to confront darkness and speak the truth — something society needs more of today,” he said. He added that collaborating once again with Prime Video has been a rewarding experience and that the project marks another milestone in their long-standing partnership.
“We share a common vision of backing unique, culturally rooted stories with relatable characters that not only entertain but also leave a lasting impact. With its haunting narrative and powerful performances, Cheekatilo promises to be a gripping and unforgettable experience,” he noted.
Nikhil Madhok, Director and Head of Originals at Prime Video India, said that while the suspense-thriller genre is well explored, the platform remains focused on delivering distinctive stories with emotional depth. “Audiences strongly connected with this approach in our Telugu Original series Dhootha, and Cheekatilo continues that vision,” he said.
Madhok further highlighted that the film stands out for its blend of cultural authenticity and contemporary storytelling devices, with podcasts playing a central role in the narrative.
Directed by Sharan Kopishetty and produced by D. Suresh Babu under the banner of Suresh Productions Pvt. Ltd., Cheekatilo is written by Chandra Pemmaraju and Sharan Kopishetty. As a Prime Original movie, it adds another compelling Telugu title to Prime Video’s growing slate of regional content.
