Mumbai, Jan 11: Bollywood actor Alia Bhatt has heaped praise on Yami Gautam after watching her latest film Haq, which recently premiered on Netflix. The film is inspired by the real-life story of Shah Bano Begum and the landmark Supreme Court judgment that reshaped women’s rights and maintenance laws in India.

Taking to Instagram Stories, Alia shared the film’s poster and lauded Yami’s performance, describing it as one of the best she has seen. “Queen @yamigautam you are pure craft, heart and all things gold in Haq! One of my top female performances of all time,” Alia wrote, adding that she had already spoken to Yami over the phone and was eagerly looking forward to her future work.

Responding to the heartfelt appreciation, Yami Gautam shared a post expressing her gratitude. She wrote that it takes a “brilliant actor and a gem of a person” to be so generous with praise, adding that she has always admired Alia’s work and ethics. Yami also mentioned that the two had a meaningful and honest conversation and spoke about supporting and celebrating women’s empowerment.

Haq has been receiving widespread acclaim from audiences and critics alike, with many praising Yami’s restrained yet powerful portrayal of Shah Bano Begum. Reacting to the overwhelming response, Yami thanked viewers on social media, saying the love she received was deeply gratifying for her both as an artist and as a woman.

Several other celebrities from the film fraternity have also lauded the film. Kiara Advani shared the poster on Instagram, calling Yami’s performance “beautiful,” while actor Sanjay Kapoor described Haq as an “excellent” watch.

Based on the historic 1985 Supreme Court verdict in Mohd. Ahmed Khan vs Shah Bano Begum, the film highlights issues of justice, dignity and women’s rights. Speaking earlier about her role, Yami said portraying Shah Bano required deep emotional understanding, as the story is rooted in reality and carries strong social relevance.

Directed by Suparn S Varma, Haq also features Vartika Singh, Danish Husain, Sheeba Chadha and Aseem Hattangady in key roles. The film is produced by Junglee Pictures and backed by Vineet Jain, Vishal Gurnani, Juhi Parekh Mehta and Harman Baweja. It was released in theatres on November 7, 2025, before making its way to Netflix.
