Mapusa, Jan 12: A burglary attempt in Parra was thwarted late Saturday night after a young girl, who was alone at home, raised an alarm and forced four masked intruders to flee, once again drawing attention to safety concerns in the area.

The incident occurred around 10.30 pm when the suspects arrived at the house, apparently assuming it was an easy target as other family members were away. According to police sources, the men tried to gain entry by cutting the window grills.

The attempt was foiled when the homeowner’s daughter noticed unusual movement and heard the sound of metal being tampered with. Acting swiftly, she raised a loud alarm that alerted neighbours, prompting the intruders to abandon their plan and escape before entering the house.

CCTV cameras installed on the property recorded the entire incident. Mapusa police have obtained the footage and launched an investigation to identify and trace the masked suspects.

The attempted robbery has heightened anxiety among residents, coming soon after a recent theft at a local temple in Parra. Locals have renewed demands for stronger policing and increased night patrols in the area.

Local MLA Michael Lobo commended the girl’s presence of mind but voiced serious concern over the state of policing infrastructure. He pointed to an acute shortage of resources at the Mapusa police station, noting that officers currently have access to only two four-wheelers and two two-wheelers to cover the area.
