Panaji, Jan 13: The maiden address of Governor Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju to the Goa Legislative Assembly, delivered on the opening day of the winter session, focused largely on the government’s achievements, ambitious policy initiatives and a series of statistical assurances.

Running close to two hours, the address outlined key accomplishments of the state government and set out its policy roadmap. However, it was only towards the concluding part of the speech that the Governor referred to the tragedies that have deeply affected Goa, including the Birch by Romeo Lane fire inferno, the Shirgao Zatra stampede and fatalities in road accidents.

Following the mention of these incidents, the House observed a minute’s silence in memory of those who lost their lives.
