Sullia, Jan 18: Tragedy struck near Kulkund in Subrahmanya on Sunday evening when Sujeeth Kollmogara (28), nephew of Jayaram of Kollmogru village, Sullia, and Hariprasad Kollmogara(39), son of Gopal Nair, drowned in the Kumaradhara River.
According to the complainant Jayaram (57), the two men were at the riverbank with friends when Sujeeth entered the water to swim but began struggling and was unable to stay afloat. Hariprasad immediately jumped in to rescue him, but both tragically drowned.


Police, upon receiving the information, rushed to the scene and recovered the bodies of Sujeeth and Hariprasad from the riverbank. Witnesses confirmed the sequence of events and stated that other friends were present at the time.
A case has been registered at Subrahmanya police station under UDR No. 02/2026, Section 194 BNSS, and investigations are ongoing to ascertain the exact circumstances of the incident.
The police have also urged residents and visitors to exercise caution near riverbanks, particularly during the season when water levels and currents can be unpredictable.
