Los Angeles, Feb 27 (IANS): Octavia Spencer was overwhelmed as her name was announced for best supporting actress winner's trophy at the 84th Academy Awards here for her role as a big-mouthed maid in "The Help".
Her character in the movie, which details the African-American maid's point of view about the white families for which they work and the hardships they go through on a daily basis, was called Minny.
The role has put her on a roll this year as she also won a Golden Globe Award, a BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) award and a Screen Actors Guild Award for the best supporting actress.
At the Oscars, her competitors in the category included Berenice Bejo ("The Artist"), Jessica Chastain ("The Help"), Melissa McCarthy ("Bridesmaids") and Janet McTeer ("Albert Nobbs").
She was in tears after she received her first Oscar at the ceremony, where she was honoured with a standing ovation.
