Mumbai, Jan 27: Filmmaker Karan Johar has announced a brief break from social media, saying he is going on a “digital detox” for about a week.

Taking to Instagram Stories on Monday evening, Johar said he would stay away from scrolling, direct messages and posting during this period. “Digital Detox for a week! No doom scrolling! No DMs! No posts! May the universe give me the strength to stay away!!!!” he wrote.

Before signing off, the filmmaker shared a video still of actress Alia Bhatt, wishing everyone a Happy Republic Day. He also praised the recent box office success of Ranveer Singh-starrer Dhurandhar and Sunny Deol’s Border 2, saying their performance proved that Bollywood was “back” and that films connecting emotionally with audiences would always succeed.

Earlier, Johar had also come out in support of actor Varun Dhawan, who faced online trolling over his expressions in Border 2. Criticising what he termed as hollow social media outrage, Johar said the “real world” would always outweigh virtual noise.
