Surathkal youth killed, four injured in Kottayam car accident

Kottayam, Jan 28: A youth from Kana, Surathkal, was killed and four others were injured after a car met with an accident in Kottayam, Kerala, on Wednesday January 28.

The deceased has been identified as Shanawaz alias Shameem (26), a native of Angaragudde in Mulki taluk, who was presently residing at Chirag Flats in Kana.

Those injured in the accident include Siraj of Katipalla, Ashfaq of Kana, Shabbir of Surinje, and one person from Rajasthan who was driving the car. Among the injured, Siraj’s condition is reported to be critical.

It is learnt that Shameem and the four others had gone to Kottayam as bouncers for a programme being held there. On Wednesday morning, while they were travelling by car towards the town to have breakfast, the accident occurred. The car reportedly lost control on a narrow road and plunged into a gorge about 20 feet deep.

Shanawaz, who sustained severe injuries, died on the spot. Siraj suffered serious injuries and was brought to Mangaluru, where he has been admitted to a private hospital for treatment.

Shabbir of Surinje and Ashfaq of Kana received treatment and were later discharged from the hospital. The car driver, a native of Rajasthan, is said to have escaped without any threat to his life.
