Kolkata, Feb 1: YouTuber Sayak Chakraborty, who recently alleged that he was served beef instead of mutton at a Park Street restaurant, is now facing legal action.

A man named Joyraj Bhattacharjee filed a complaint against Chakraborty on Saturday night at the Park Street Police Station, accusing him of attempting to incite a riot and conspiring to create unrest. Bhattacharjee clarified that his complaint was lodged at the police station and not on social media.

The controversy began when Sayak visited the bar-cum-restaurant Olypub on Friday night with two friends and reportedly ordered a mutton steak.

According to his complaint, the restaurant allegedly served beef instead. Sayak shared a video of the incident and his confrontation with the waiter and manager online, which quickly went viral.

Following Sayak’s complaint, Kolkata Police arrested Sheikh Nasiruddin, a restaurant employee, under Section 299 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which pertains to deliberately hurting religious sentiments. He was denied bail when produced in court.

While the incident sparked widespread debate on social media, some questioned Sayak’s approach to the matter. One of his friends present that night clarified online that although they raised the issue of being served the wrong dish, they did not intend any religious provocation.

The matter continues to draw attention as legal proceedings unfold, highlighting the sensitive nature of religious and dietary issues in public discourse.
