Class 5 student loses vision after assault at Army Public School

Lucknow, Jan 2: A class 5 student of an Army Public School here allegedly lost his eyesight after being assaulted by two fellow students on the school premises, police said on Sunday.

According to a complaint lodged by the child’s mother at the Cantonment Police Station, the incident occurred on January 21 at around 12.30 pm on the school ground. She alleged that her son was attacked by a student from another section of class 5 and a class 3 student.

The complaint stated that the accused students knocked the boy to the ground and rubbed the heel of a shoe on his eyes and face, causing severe injuries. Following the assault, the child reportedly lost his vision and is currently undergoing treatment at the Command Hospital.

The mother further alleged that the school authorities failed to take cognisance of the incident despite being informed about it. She has demanded strict action not only against the students involved but also against the school staff for alleged negligence.

Police said they received the complaint and registered an FIR on January 30. Further investigation into the matter is underway.
