Udupi, Feb 3: In a bold and creative move to address persistent roadside littering, the Udupi City Municipality Council (CMC) has launched an innovative cleanliness drive at Beedingudde, a location that was earlier notorious for waste dumping by passersby.
The area had frequently turned into a garbage dumping spot, forcing municipal workers to clean it repeatedly. Frustrated by the recurring issue, the municipality decided to implement strong preventive measures to ensure long-term cleanliness.
As part of the initiative, the site was thoroughly cleaned and the space behind the roadside was covered with a green mat. Barriers were installed along the edge of the road, and saplings were planted to improve the surroundings.

In a unique effort to draw public attention, neatly dressed dolls were placed at the spot, symbolising the message of cleanliness and civic responsibility.
Additionally, a banner has been displayed reading, “It is enough to have a clean dress, don’t you want a clean Udupi?” along with a clear warning that dumping waste at the location is strictly prohibited.
To further strengthen monitoring and deter violators, the municipality has installed CCTV cameras at the site.
Such creative and firm measures are essential to maintain the city’s cleanliness. The initiative is expected to inspire citizens to take collective responsibility for keeping Udupi clean and green.
