Mangaluru, Feb 4: Students of grades 6 to 8 at Manipal School participated in a two-day Skill Education Initiative held on January 28 and 29, as part of the CBSE-mandated bag-less education programme. The initiative aimed to integrate financial literacy with vocational and creative skill development such as art and crafts, culinary fun, and design and innovation.
Financial literacy programme
The programme focused on building financial awareness among students. On day 1, sessions included a short film on saving habits, scenario-based discussions, and debates to enhance decision-making skills. Deeksha Rao led interactive sessions on the evolution of currency, banking systems, digital financial tools, mutual funds, and stocks. Day 2 featured student-made charts and a quiz conducted by Zerodha Varsity in collaboration with Qshala.




















Baking workshop
Under the guidance of skilled baker Reshna Sudeep, students prepared mini pizzas and chocolate chip cookies. The hands-on experience helped them develop precision, time management, and teamwork.
Cooking programme
Students learned to prepare fruit juices, cucumber snacks, dry fruit and gram ladoos, and flaxseed chutney powder. The session introduced basic cooking techniques while emphasising healthy eating habits.
Jewellery-making session
Facilitated by Roopa along with faculty members, students crafted bangles, jhumkas, and bracelets using silk threads. The activity enhanced fine motor skills, concentration, and creativity.
Mask-making programme
Students designed and created masks inspired by facial expressions and cultural themes. They sketched designs, cut shapes, and assembled pieces, building artistic flair and manual dexterity.
Tie-dye workshop
Students of grades 6 and 7 participated in a tie-and-dye workshop, creating T-shirts and bandanas. They learned folding techniques, colour combinations, and basic textile concepts
Design thinking and innovation
The design thinking and innovation session was conducted by Dream Kit, with Savan Ullal, Innovation Lab Trainer at Manipal School, as the resource person. Students explored human-centred problem-solving through real-life school-based case studies.
Working in teams, they developed prototypes, presented innovative solutions, and received feedback, fostering creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking.
The initiative concluded with a student assembly where participants shared their learning experiences through speeches, skits, and dance performances. At Manipal School, Mangaluru such initiatives are an integral part of nurturing practical skills and creativity among students.
