Udhampur, Feb 4: In a major breakthrough, security forces on Wednesday neutralised two dreaded Pakistani terrorists who were hiding inside a cave in Basantgarh area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district, officials said.

One M4 Carbine and one AK-47 rifle were recovered from the slain militants.

According to officials, joint teams of the Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police and the CRPF had been tracking the terrorists since Tuesday. The militants were believed to be holed up in the Jaffer forest area of Ramnagar since Tuesday afternoon after an intense gunfight.

During the initial encounter, one terrorist was reportedly injured, following which both took refuge inside a cave.

A fresh exchange of fire and explosions was reported Tuesday evening when the militants attempted to escape under the cover of darkness. Reinforcements, including paratroopers and dog squads, were rushed to the area to strengthen the cordon.

Security forces are continuing operations to clear the cave and ensure there are no further threats. Drones are also being used for surveillance as the search continues.
