Udupi, Feb 7: The Manipal Police have taken strict action against two-wheelers fitted with defective silencers that create excessive noise within the Udupi–Manipal Police Station limits.

Over the past six months, under the leadership of Manipal Police Inspector Mahesh Prasad, special inspection drives were conducted at various locations across the station’s jurisdiction.

During these drives, police identified and seized a total of 120 defective silencers and registered 120 cases against the offenders.

In connection with these cases, fines totalling Rs 1,05,000 were collected from the violators.

All 120 seized silencers were destroyed using a bulldozer in front of the Manipal Police Station, in the presence of District Superintendent of Police Hariram Shankar, IPS. Inspector Mahesh Prasad and other police officials were present on the occasion.

The operation forms part of the Udupi police’s ongoing efforts to curb noise pollution and enforce traffic safety regulations in the region.

In Mangalore also we experience such nuisance. The bus and lorry drivers as well as students are the culprits. They think that our roads belongs to them. Mangalore Traffic Police take similar action here. Taking action once in a blue moon is not enough.

Excellent Initiative on the part of Udipi-Manipal police👍Congratulations and well done, Sir 👌How I wish the same steps and initiative is taken by the Mangalore (DK) Police. People (mostly old, sick & infants) are at the mercy of these 2-wheeler rogues who speed down Comm. George Martis Road at any time of the day or night without any consideration for their sleep or rest. The culprits should not only be heavily fined and their silencers destroyed but also they should be made to hear the blast in their ears and see how they enjoy the sound. Comm. George Martis Road has become a very busy thoroughfare with the opening of the road from Kadri Park / Padua School-end and the peaceful living of the residents has been badly compromised. Hope the authorities wake up and take some steps to eliminate this nuisance of two-wheeler sound and heavy traffic in this narrow by-lane😭😭😭

Bravo......!!Appreciated the good work by the Policemen. My question is when they will destroy the vacuum horns which produce the high decibel (>85dB) sound and can cause high BP to all on the streets. Why this menace can not be stopped? The drivers bring the vehicle close to your vicinity and blow them.
