New Delhi, Feb 8: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat on Saturday said that the Sangh does not seek power or popularity, nor does it aim to function as a pressure group, asserting that its sole objective is the unification of society.
Speaking at a programme organised to mark the organisation’s centenary, Bhagwat said the RSS had long ago resolved that it would not take up any work other than uniting society, and once that objective is achieved, it would not pursue any other agenda.

Addressing the gathering, Bhagwat claimed that the Sangh works for the country without opposing anyone. He said people from different countries are visiting India and RSS offices to understand the organisation’s functioning, with many expressing interest in adopting a similar model for their youth.
“The Sangh has not emerged in competition with any organisation, nor in reaction or opposition to any. Our work is done without opposing anyone. The Sangh neither seeks popularity nor power. All good work happening in the country should be done properly — that is what the Sangh stands for,” he said.
Bhagwat further stated that RSS swayamsevaks are running over 1.3 lakh service activities across the country without taking any government funding, contributing their own resources with the cooperation of society.
He said India would emerge as a superpower but must also rise as Vishwaguru, adding that this would require sustained effort in character-building and social organisation, rather than domination.
“As long as Dharma drives Bharat as the sustaining force for all existence, it will retain this role and uplift the world,” the RSS chief said.
