Udupi: Man dies by suicide after jumping into well at Kakkunje

Udupi, Feb 8: In a shocking and tragic incident, a 52-year-old man died by suicide after jumping into a well at Kakkunje in Ambagilu ward of Udupi city late on Friday night. The deceased has been identified as Purushottam Nayak.

According to sources, Purushottam Nayak allegedly tied a nylon rope at his residence before jumping into the well. During the incident, his head reportedly got separated from the body, leaving the water in the well stained deep red. The gruesome incident led to scenes of uncontrollable grief among family members and local residents who gathered at the spot.

Purushottam Nayak was working as an electrician at a hotel in Manipal as an assistant supervision electrician and was in the final phase of his service career. He was residing along with his elder son Guru in a nearby house.

Well known in social and religious circles, he was actively involved in various social activities and was serving as secretary of the administrative committee of Katte Mahadevi Temple at Kakkunje. The Nayak family enjoys considerable respect and recognition in the locality.

Local residents suspect that financial difficulties may have led to depression, which could have driven him to take the extreme step. Police have registered a case and further investigation is underway.
