Udupi, Feb 8: The eighth edition of the Manipal Marathon, organised by the Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), concluded on a high note at KMC Greens, Manipal, on Sunday, February 8. Recognized as one of India’s largest student-led community fitness events, the marathon attracted over 20,000 runners, including more than 100 international athletes, competing for a prize pool exceeding Rs 25 lac.
Reinforcing MAHE’s commitment to environmental stewardship, this year’s theme was 'Miles for a Greener Tomorrow - Run for a Sustainable Future'. The event successfully aligned with MAHE’s ongoing sustainability initiatives, such as tree plantation, biodiversity conservation, solar energy utilisation, and waste management.












































































































Addressing the massive gathering, Dr H S Ballal, pro chancellor, MAHE, said, "The overwhelming response demonstrates MAHE's vision of fostering holistic development. By bringing together over 20,000 runners, we are not just promoting fitness but also reinforcing our commitment to environmental stewardship. What began as a student initiative has blossomed into an event attracting participation from over 10 countries."
International participation and scenic routes
The event saw enthusiastic participation from athletes representing Dubai, England, Ethiopia, Germany, Kenya, Japan, Malaysia, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and the USA. A major highlight for the 42k runners was the scenic beachside route, while the newly introduced 10k route included the Manipal Hospice Respite Centre (MHRC), emphasizing social impact.
Dignitaries present
The event was graced by various dignitaries including Dr H S Ballal, pro chancellor; Lt Gen (Dr) M D Venkatesh, VSM (retd), vice chancellor; Dr Sharath Rao, pro vice chancellor (health sciences); Dr Dilip G Naik, pro vice chancellor (Mangalore campus); Dr Anand Venugopal, chief operating officer (operations); Dr Gopalakrishna Prabhu, vice chancellor, Sikkim Manipal University; and other senior officials of MAHE.
The marathon also featured dedicated categories for differently abled and visually challenged runners, reflecting MAHE’s focus on equity and inclusivity.
MAHE expressed its gratitude to title sponsors including ICICI Bank, UNEXT, Deloitte, BOBCARD, and others for their support. The event concluded with a vibrant post-run carnival featuring music, interactive fitness sessions, and Zumba.
