Mangaluru, Feb 8: Panic prevailed for a while near the KSRTC bus stand at Bejai on Sunday, February 8, after a moving car suddenly caught fire.

The driver of the car, who noticed smoke emanating from the engine area while passing in front of the main entrance of the bus stand, displayed quick presence of mind by immediately stopping the vehicle and jumping out. Within moments, the front portion of the car was engulfed in flames.

The thick smoke and fire caused anxiety among the hundreds of passengers and commuters present at the busy bus terminal. Local shopkeepers and auto-rickshaw drivers rushed to the spot with water and handheld extinguishers, but the fire intensified rapidly.

Upon receiving information, fire personnel from the Kadri fire station arrived at the scene and successfully doused the flames. While the vehicle sustained significant damage, no casualties or injuries were reported.

Traffic on the Bejai road was disrupted for some time as onlookers gathered to witness the incident. The traffic police arrived at the spot to clear the congestion and facilitate the movement of buses.

A technical snag or a short circuit in the engine is suspected to be the cause of the fire. A case has been registered at the jurisdictional police station.
