Man dies 10 days after minor-driven SUV hits scooter

Mumbai, Feb 16: A 33-year-old man succumbed to injuries on Sunday, ten days after a sport utility vehicle (SUV) allegedly driven by a minor rammed into his scooter in Mumbai, police said.

The victim, Dhrumil Patel, was critically injured in the accident that took place near Somaiya College in the Vidyavihar area on February 5. His wife, Minal Patel, who was riding pillion at the time, remains in a critical condition, an official from Tilak Nagar police station said.

According to police, the couple was hit by a speeding Kia Seltos, allegedly driven at high speed by a minor. The SUV is reportedly owned by the boy’s father, identified as Valji Raja Bhushan.

Following Dhrumil’s death, the FIR will be upgraded with relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the official said.

A case has been registered against the minor and his father, who has been booked for allowing an underage person to drive the vehicle. Police have conducted a site inspection and examined CCTV footage from the area to ascertain the speed of the car and the sequence of events leading to the accident.

Further investigation is underway.
