Mumbai, Aug 19: Mumbai Police have launched a crackdown on unauthorised drone operations during Ganpati arrival celebrations, with Kalachowki Police taking action against two persons allegedly found filming a procession using drones.
The incident occurred during the Mahaganpati arrival procession in Kalachowki, where the two individuals were reportedly operating drones to capture aerial footage of the celebrations. Police intervened and seized two drones valued at around Rs 1.87 lakh in total.
Police have initiated action under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The action comes ahead of the Ganesh festival, when Mumbai is expected to witness a large number of idol arrival programmes, installations and processions. With thousands of devotees expected to gather at various locations, police have stepped up security measures to prevent incidents and ensure smooth conduct of celebrations.
Authorities have warned against flying drones without the required permission, particularly over crowded public gatherings. Unauthorised aerial devices could interfere with security arrangements and pose a potential risk to people participating in processions.
Citizens, photographers and social media content creators seeking to record Ganpati celebrations using drones have been advised to follow the prescribed regulations and obtain permission from the concerned authorities.
Ganpati arrival processions traditionally attract large crowds, with prominent mandals organising decorated vehicles, music and other programmes. Police and civic agencies deploy additional personnel to regulate crowds and traffic along procession routes.
The Kalachowki action is expected to serve as a warning to those planning to operate drones during the upcoming festival. Police have appealed to citizens to cooperate with security personnel and refrain from using drones without authorisation.
Those found violating the restrictions may face legal action, besides seizure of the drones, police said.
