Navi Mumbai, Feb 22: A five-foot-long spectacled cobra was safely rescued from the premises of a school run by the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) in Rabale, officials said. The snake was later released into a distant forested habitat away from human settlements.
Akshay Dange, a snake rescuer from the Sahyadri Group, explained that the adult cobra likely strayed onto the campus due to the surrounding natural terrain. “There are several patches of wilderness along the hilly slopes in Rabale, and the cobra appears to have accidentally entered the school premises,” he said.

According to Dange, the rescue team responded swiftly after being alerted. “When we arrived, the cobra was in an alert and defensive posture with its hood raised. We ensured a careful and safe rescue before relocating it to a suitable forest area,” he added.
Authorities reiterated the importance of contacting trained wildlife rescuers in such situations and advised residents to avoid approaching or provoking wild animals that may wander into urban spaces bordering green zones.
