Tehran, Mar 1: Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has been confirmed dead, according to Iranian state television, as reported by the BBC and other international media outlets. The announcement follows large-scale military strikes reportedly carried out by the United States and Israel targeting key Iranian leadership and military infrastructure.
Initial claims about Khamenei’s death were made earlier by former U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. At the time, Iranian authorities had denied the reports. However, Iranian state television has now reportedly confirmed that the 86-year-old leader was killed during the strikes.

According to reports, the strikes targeted high-security locations linked to Iran’s top leadership in Tehran, along with military and nuclear facilities. Several senior Iranian officials are also believed to have been killed in the operation, though full details are still emerging.
In response, Iran reportedly launched retaliatory missile and drone attacks targeting Israeli territory and U.S. interests in the region, raising fears of a wider conflict across the Middle East. Security analysts warn that the situation could significantly destabilize the region and impact global energy markets.
Khamenei had served as Iran’s Supreme Leader since 1989 and was the country’s highest political and religious authority. His death is expected to trigger a crucial leadership transition process involving the Assembly of Experts and the powerful Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
The United Nations and several world leaders have urged restraint and called for immediate de-escalation to prevent further escalation of hostilities.
