Saudi Arabia warns Iran against ‘miscalculation’ after missile, drone attacks

Daijiworld Media Network - Riyadh

Riyadh, Mar 7: Saudi Arabia has warned Iran against any “miscalculation” following missile and drone launches targeting key locations in the kingdom, including sites linked to US military presence and major oil facilities.

Saudi Defence Minister Khalid bin Salman issued the warning on Saturday after Saudi air defences intercepted several incoming threats. The defence ministry said a ballistic missile launched towards the Prince Sultan Air Base, which houses US military personnel, was successfully intercepted before reaching its target.

Authorities also reported an attempted drone strike on the Shaybah Oilfield, where six drones were shot down over the Empty Quarter desert. Earlier this week, at least two drone attacks were reported targeting the Ras Tanura Refinery, one of the kingdom’s key oil processing facilities.

Prince Khalid issued the warning in a message posted on X after meeting Asim Munir. He said the two sides discussed the regional situation and emphasised that such attacks threaten stability in the Middle East.

The minister said the actions undermine regional security and expressed hope that Iran would act with restraint. He urged the Iranian leadership to exercise wisdom and avoid steps that could escalate tensions in an already volatile region.

Saudi authorities said their air defence systems remain on high alert as investigations continue into the latest attacks on the kingdom’s strategic military and energy infrastructure.
