Mangaluru, Mar 16: The NSS unit of Nitte Usha Institute of Nursing Sciences (NUINS), in collaboration with the department of child health nursing, organized a one-day workshop titled ‘Apathbandhu – First Aid and Emergency Situation Training Programme’ for teachers of St Agnes Pre-University College on March 13.
The programme was inaugurated by Fr Vincent D’Souza, director of CODP-ISD and secretary of the Social Development Commission of the diocese of Mangalore. The programme was presided over by Prof Dr Sabita Nayak, vice principal of Nitte Usha Institute of Nursing Sciences.


















On the occasion, Prof Dr Sujatha R, head of the department of child health nursing, associate professor Dr Charlotte Simple D’Souza, NSS programme officer Sukesh Shetty, and others were present. The programme began with a welcome by Jeevitha Alva. Dr Charlotte Simple D’Souza proposed the vote of thanks.
During the workshop, training was provided on bandaging techniques, care for fractures and wounds, choking, drowning, seizures, bites, electric shock, bleeding control, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). The training placed strong emphasis on practical demonstrations and active participation of the attendees.
Dr Charlotte Simple D’Souza and Cheryl Fernandes served as resource persons. They were assisted in coordinating the training programme by NSS programme officer Sukesh Shetty, Jeevitha Alva, and Keerthimala K.
The workshop concluded with a valedictory ceremony presided over by Shashikumar Shetty, NSS coordinator of Nitte University. In his address, he highlighted the importance of first aid training and later distributed certificates to the participants.
The workshop helped create awareness among teachers about essential first aid skills needed to effectively manage emergency situations.
