DKCA, Northern Sky organise first women’s leather ball cricket tournament in Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Mar 21: For the first time in Mangaluru, a women’s leather ball cricket tournament has been organised jointly by the Dakshina Kannada Cricket Association (DKCA) and Northern Sky Properties. The tournament is being held at Nehru Maidan in the city.

DKCA vice president Mahabala Marla said that the main objective of the tournament is to encourage the development of women’s cricket and to provide a platform for young and talented women cricketers to showcase their skills.

Teams from Mangaluru, Udupi, and Kodagu districts are participating in the tournament. A total of five teams is competing, including two teams from Mangaluru and one team each from Udupi, Manipal, and Brahmavar.

The matches will be conducted in a league format in the first stage, with each match consisting of 25 overs. The final match has been scheduled for 30 overs. A total of 10 league matches will be played before the final.

This tournament is considered an important step towards identifying and promoting new talent in the field of women’s cricket.
