Kolkata, Mar 22: Kolkata Knight Riders have suffered a major setback ahead of the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League, with pacer Akash Deep ruled out due to injury.

The 29-year-old Bengal fast bowler has been undergoing rehabilitation at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. He was picked up by KKR at his base price of Rs 1 crore during last year’s mini-auction in Abu Dhabi.

The development adds to KKR’s injury concerns, with Harshit Rana already ruled out for the season, while Sri Lankan pacer Matheesha Pathirana is still awaiting clearance from Sri Lanka Cricket.

Led by Ajinkya Rahane, KKR are set to begin their campaign against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on March 29.
