Mangaluru, Mar 26: The Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) on Thursday presented its budget for the financial year 2026-27, marking a rare instance as the exercise was carried out by the administrator in the absence of elected representatives for nearly a year.
Administrator and Dakshina Kannada deputy commissioner Darshan H V presented the budget at the Mangala Hall. The total budget size, including opening balance, has been estimated at Rs 937.69 crore, with proposed expenditure of Rs 781.51 crore, resulting in a surplus of Rs 156.17 crore.





Providing details, the administrator said that in the financial year 2025-26, a total revenue of Rs 644.64 crore was projected, out of which Rs 342.25 crore had been realised by the end of December 2025. Against the estimated expenditure of Rs 789.72 crore last year, Rs 393.47 crore had been spent during the same period through internal resources and government grants.
For the upcoming financial year, the corporation expects to generate Rs 337.25 crore through its own sources. Key revenue streams include property tax (Rs 90 crore), water charges (Rs 55 crore), solid waste management cess (Rs 26 crore), building licence and premium FAR (Rs 26 crore), and other sources such as bank interest and rentals.
The state government is expected to contribute Rs 199.23 crore under various heads, including salaries, State Finance Commission grants, direct payments to civic workers, and stamp duty surcharge. Meanwhile, the central government is likely to provide Rs 93.36 crore under schemes such as AMRUT 2.0, Jal Hi Amrit, Swachh Bharat Mission, and Finance Commission grants.
The budget includes Rs 629.85 crore in revenue receipts along with an opening balance of Rs 307.84 crore.
MCC commissioner Ravichandra Nayak and revenue officer (administration) Akshata were present on the occasion.
