Wild elephant damages property, crops in Beltangady village

Beltangady, Mar 27: Incidents of wild elephant intrusion continue to trouble residents of Marvanthila in Kokkada village of Beltangady taluk, with fresh damage reported during the late hours of Wednesday night.

According to sources, a wild elephant entered the premises of farmer Vijay N Shabaraya around 1 am, broke the gate of his house, and caused damage to his arecanut plantation. The movement of the elephant was captured on CCTV cameras installed at the house.

The animal also destroyed several coconut trees in nearby areas. Seven trees belonging to Anand Gowda, four belonging to Kushalappa Gowda, and two owned by Sundar Naik were reportedly damaged in the incident.

Residents said that sightings of wild elephants have become frequent in the Kokkada-Marvanthila region this year, causing concern among farmers. They have urged the forest department to take immediate measures to prevent further incursions and protect agricultural land.
