Bantwal, Mar 27: The inaugural session on language harmony in Dakshina Kannada district brought together literary leaders and academicians for a meaningful discussion on fostering multilingual unity in the region.
Taranath Gatti Kapikad, president of the Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy, highlighted the Tulu community’s enduring contribution to promoting linguistic bonds alongside Kannada along the coastal region. “The Tulu community’s role in reinforcing language harmony has been immense, and their efforts were crucial during the Karnataka unification movement,” he said.

The session was presided over by Chidambara Baikampady.
Joachim Stany Alvares, president of the Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy, emphasised the inclusive nature of Konkani, noting that it is spoken by Hindus, Muslims, and Christians alike, making it a symbol of communal harmony.
Speaking about the Byari community, Umar U H president of the Karnataka Byari Sahitya Academy, said, “During the establishment of the Byari Sahitya Academy, numerous Kannada and Tulu community leaders recommended and supported its formation. Many members of the Byari community have worked tirelessly in the service of Kannada language and literature.”
Chandrashekar Peralu, member of the Karnataka Arebhashe Samskruti and Sahitya Academy, added that the formation of the Arebhashe Academy has infused new energy among Arebhashe speakers. “In the Sulya region, all communities speak Arebhasha freely, which reflects its inclusive spirit,” he said.
The event was coordinated by Dr M P Srinath, president of the District Kannada Sahitya Parishat. Also present were Subhashchandra Jain, treasurer of the session’s welcome committee, and Umesh Nayak, president of Puttur Kannada Sahitya Parishat.
The programme was organised and managed by Ramananda Noojippadi, honorary secretary of Bantwal taluk KASAP, ensuring a smooth and engaging session.
